Synopsis

In the second half of her junior year, everyone was grinding for postgraduate exams except Cheng Xi. She too wanted that path, but reality said no: only two months of living expenses remained in her bank account, and she had to budget every coin and keep working. A counselor and several teachers kept asking how she was doing, saying they would find help. A senior sister from student council somehow found out about her money shortage, hurried back to campus, and waited under the dormitory. "Cheng Xi, want to work?" the sister said. "Say yes and I’ll take you to interview right away." At the sight of the untidy, exhausted sister, Cheng Xi stepped back and asked quietly, "Is this job legitimate? Will I have to hand in my phone and ID?" The sister called instantly. Within half an hour a man in a Zhongshan suit arrived with a pile of certificates. After checking authenticity, Cheng Xi cut through the long speech and asked two key questions: "How is wage calculated? Is there social insurance?" He answered: guaranteed base 8,000, 1,500 bonus per order, plus six insurances and two funds, meals and lodging included. She banged the table: "Done! This is the high-paying job I’ll take. Sign now." On the first day she regretted it. "No one told me high pay carries high risk. Can I quit now?" At root, this is a story of a deeply cash-strapped university student tricked into ghost-catching. Poor but optimistic with a money-mad heart, and a silent poetic lead.
