Synopsis

Social-dominant Cheng Zhu Ying accidentally obtained telepathy, and after confirming it works she pointed it at Lu Mi. Lu Mi, with bangs covering her eyes, sits by the window in the last row, ranks near the bottom in class, and is her former childhood friend as well as desk mate. She usually says nothing and refuses Cheng’s invitations even to walk to the restroom hand-in-hand. No matter what Cheng says, there is no way to tell if Lu Mi hears her; her reactions shift with her mood. Cheng, who can make stray dogs and cats on the roadside into friends, had never clicked with Lu Mi, and this refusal bothered her. After carefully confirming the method was accurate, Cheng parted Lu Mi’s hair and looked straight into her eyes. The rule to activate telepathy is simple: look at someone for more than five seconds. She heard Lu Mi’s inner voice: "My desk-mate wore her shirt inside out today." "Why does the cat outside the school gate ignore me?" "That person near the gate—do I know him? Should I say hello?" "On math homework we are complete strangers; why is she treating me like this?" "I’m just stupidly staring at math homework. Feeling so empty and confused, hahaha." "I do not want to eat cafeteria food at noon; the smell is awful." It was all endless complaint mode. Cheng was shaken by this barrage of mental chatter like instant-message comments. At the last of those, she found one useful clue that could lead to friendship and immediately held her hand: "Lu Mi, come eat lunch with me at noon." Lu Mi’s gaze stayed on the two hands joined together: "... Okay." "Too close." Since then, Lu Mi noticed strange things happened every day: if she wanted a comic book, Cheng put it on her desk by the next morning; when she got hungry, strawberries and oranges appeared from Cheng; when she got cold during afternoon rest, a jacket with a faint scent showed up on her. It was Cheng’s. Without noticing, the once-empty campus life was filled in with another person’s name. "Cheng Zhu Ying, Cheng Zhu Ying, Cheng Zhu Ying." Biting her pen, Lu Mi still could not finish math homework. She looked up and found the girl beside her as red as the strawberries Cheng had fed her at noon. "Cheng Zhu Ying," Lu Mi finally asked the question that had been lingering, "why are you always looking at my eyes?" "Do you like me? ... Wait, desk mate, let me explain. Your inner voice is just too fun to hear. I only want to listen more. That is all!!" Tips: 1. Study hard and improve every day. 2. A light, somewhat casual daily mystery.
